Dr. Gustav Nossal is the chairman of the Strategic Advisory Council of the Children’s Vaccine Program at PATH, a position he has held since 1998. Dr. Nossal's varied research interests include vaccines, transplantation, autoimmunity, and allergic disease; cancer, particularly in the areas of causation and epidemiology; and parasitology, in the areas of malaria, schistosomiasis, and filariasis.

Dr. Nossal has spent most of his research career at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne. He served as Director of the Hall Institute from 1965-1996. He also has been Assistant Professor of Genetics at Stanford University, Professor of Medical Biology at the University of Melbourne, and a Special Consultant to the World Health Organization, and has worked at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.

Dr. Nossal studied Medicine at The University of Sydney, and received his Ph.D. at the Hall Institute. He has written five books and 530 scientific articles and has received many awards and honors from 11 countries. Dr. Nossal's honors include Fellow of The Royal Society of London, Foreign Associate of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Member of the Academy of Sciences of France, the Robert Koch Gold Medal, the Albert Einstein World Award of Science, the Emil von Behring Prize, the Rabbi Shai Shacknai Prize, and more than 110 named lectureships in 10 countries.
